Art as Medicine for Body, Mind & Soul

Updated: Feb 15

Inside the studio.
Inside the studio.

For many years, my studio has been my sanctuary. A place where I have listened, struggled, discovered, and dreamed. It has held me through seasons of growth and uncertainty, and I have always cherished the quiet, almost sacred relationship I have with this space. Opening it to teaching was something I approached with great hesitation.

And yet, as the world feels increasingly fractured and disconnected, I have felt a deep longing to create not only alone, but alongside others. What I have discovered has surprised and moved me. The studio has become a place of gathering, of shared exploration, of witnessing one another’s creative unfolding.

Those who come to paint are not simply students. They are fellow travellers. Each person arrives carrying their own stories, questions, and inner landscapes. Together, through colour, texture, gesture, and image, we search for ways to give form to what lives within us. We create something that has never existed before and can only emerge through the hand and heart of the one holding the brush. There are days when the room fills with laughter, stories, and the easy rhythm of companionship. And there are moments when a deep hush settles over the studio, when each person slips into the quiet current of their work and we paint together in a shared, wordless understanding. These moments remind me again and again how deeply human the act of making art is.

I have come to understand my own practice as a sharing of inner vision, a reaching toward that imaginal realm that lives just beneath the surface of everyday life. It is the place where we remember, often quietly, that we are connected to ourselves, to one another, and to the greater living world around us. When we allow ourselves to enter this space, something begins to shift. New images emerge. New meanings take shape. Something within us is restored.

Art, in this way, becomes medicine for body, mind, and soul.

If you feel called to explore your own creative voice, I warmly invite you to join our studio circle. Come as you are. Come curious. Come willing to listen to what images wish to be created through you.
